About Us

The “ SKILL WAVE PROJECT ” is a special state wide training programme initiated by the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs in partnership with the Ministry of Local government Affairs. 

It is aimed at the develoment of  Rivers people, gender, vulnerables and the girl-child in various skills acquisition for employment generation and poverty allievation. The empowerment support is also geared towards reduction in gender wage gap and access to skill education.

The participants would be drawn from  the 23 local Government Areas in three senetorial districts of Rivers State to address the needs of about 23,000 people in various skills and create financial freedom through Enterpreneurship, digital literacy, vocational skills, financial literacy, and twenty three other in demand skills.

The programe is expected to take a span of sixteen weeks with each section conducted at three (3) times a week.

Our Mission Statement

To yealy train 23,000 Simplified Ambassadors across the 23 local government areas of Rivers state in various in demand skills in a sustainable approach. They will stir up economic activities within their various communities and stand for good governance.

Our Vision Statement

To leverage the power of skills in the hands of well oriented and trained young Rivers people to increase the GDP across each LGA in Rivers state, stir up entrepreneurial activities amongst  the young & vulnerables, deepen the goodwill of His Excellency,Increase the profiles of local government leaders,⁠⁠ensure peace in the state,strengthen the political hold of His Excellency across all the LGA’s In Rivers state.

The Need

Peace & security within the state is very crucial to attract and keep investors and investments within the state.

A study to examine the impact of youth unemployment on insecurity in Rivers State was carried out. The population of the study comprised of all the youth population in Rivers State which is 2, 017, 076. Using Taro Yamane, the sample size of the study was 400 respondents selected through a multi-stage approach. Descriptive statistics which include percentages, mean and standard deviation, inferential statistics were used for the research questions and analysis of the hypotheses. The study findings indicated that unemployment constitutes one of the causes of cultism, robbery, kidnapping, militancy, and political violence in Rivers State. Hence the need for a sustainable training program that will empower gender: women, vulnerables and the girl-child with in demand skills

Program Details

The Rivers State “SKILL WAVE PROJECT” which is slated to start on the 7th of November, 2024 and will span for 16 weeks with sessions conducted 3 times a week, with flexible timing to accommodate participant schedules including morning and afternoon sessions. Our training module includes;

Vocational Trainings

● Tailoring and fashion design workshop
● Basic computer literacy and digital skill training, (Digital Marketing, Data Analytics, User Experience, Project Management, Web design (WordPress, Webflow), App Development, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Software Development, Video Editing, Content Creation, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, Care Givers, Copywriting, Graphic design, Ushering).
● Beauty and wellness courses like (Skin Care and Makeup Artistry).
● Catering and culinary skills development.

Life Skills Development

● Self-awareness and confidence building workshops.
● Effective communication and interpersonal skills training
● Time management and goal-setting sessions
● Time management and resilience building techniques.

Entrepreneurship And Financial Literacy

● Business planning and management workshop
● Marketing and branding strategies for small businesses
● Financial literacy and budgeting sessions.
● Access to microfinance and entrepreneurship support resources
● Leadership development seminar

Advocacy And Community Engagement Training

● Women’s right and gender equality workshops
● Public speaking and presentation skills coaching

All these are courses put up together to address various areas of skill and development of our women between the ages of 13 – 40 years to help alleviate poverty consequently making them have an increased confidence and self efficacy with an enhanced employability through vocational skills, strengthened entrepreneurial mindset, business acumen, using it to make income earnings and also have greater awareness of women’s rights and empowerment opportunities.

Our Sustainability Plan

We mean business hence we hava a solid sustenance plan and strategy to ensure Skill wave project is continous and the participants receive business growth supports, job placements,mentorships and shared resources.

Skill Wave Alumni Network

Graduates of each edition will form an Alumni network where they will offer mentorship inspiration through success stories and even financial support to new beneficiaries. This network will offer peer support for business growth to each other.

Partnerships And Collaborations

Graduants from each LGA will establish a long-term partnership through the delivery of a product or service-based project for their various communities

Microfinance For Graduates

Best-performing graduates will be given access to micro-loans and starter packs to give them a head start

Monitoring, Evaluation & Adaptation

The program is designed to leverage feedback from participants, partners & sponsors for continuous relevance and adaptability

Platforms for learning & placements

Participants will be freely unboarded into both Indigenous & foreign job boards, gig matching platforms, and online job communities where they can get hired.

Public & private sector support

We plan to include the Skillwave project in the annual budget of each LGA. This will be part of their development strategy

Incubation Programs

Graduates will be given access to incubation and accelerator programs to further fine-tune various skills learned to industry standard. Shared resources and equipment will also be provided

Continuous advocacy to various stakeholder organizations and awarene
